Freedom Corner

LOCATION

Hill District, Pittsburgh, PA

PROJECT TYPE

SERVICE

Freedom Corner, the intersection of Center Avenue and Crawford Street, serves as the gateway from downtown Pittsburgh to the city’s oldest urban neighborhood.  Since the 1960’s this location has served as a platform for organizing protests, marches, demonstrations, and celebrations to promote racial equality

Our firm served as Designer and Project Manager for this project.   In addition, we coordinated the artwork, granite procurement, and research on an informational kiosk. Among the major design elements by local artist, Carlos Peterson, is that the Spiritual Form with widespread arms, cast in bronze.

This project is featured in the â€‹"From Slavery to Freedom" exhibit at the Heinz History Center.   https://www.heinzhistorycenter.org/
